A greenhouse soil warming cable is an electric heating cable laid at set intervals beneath the root zone of the plant. Its purpose is not to heat the whole volume of the greenhouse but to hold the soil layer containing the roots at an even temperature. Heating the root zone uses less energy than heating the greenhouse air; germination is faster, seedlings develop more strongly, and growth continues even in periods when there is a risk of frost.

Hobby greenhouse

Small area, short run, together with a control unit

Suitable for a hobby greenhouse in the garden and for a seed and seedling raising corner. With this option, a control unit that lets you follow the temperature digitally is sent together with your heating cable. The unit's temperature sensor is 3 metres as standard and can be moved to the point where you want to measure.

Commercial greenhouse

For long planting rows and high total power

For commercial greenhouses growing in rows; made for longer runs and higher total power. For each planting row, 2 runs of cable are laid, one either side of the roots. The control panel is not included in the price and is bought separately.

مناسب عندما

  • You plant directly into the soil and want to heat the root zone.
  • You are aiming for earliness, fast germination and strong seedling development.
  • The cost of heating the greenhouse air is too high for you.
  • You do not want to install a multi-component system that needs maintenance.
  • You plan to control the heating automatically with a thermostat.

غير مناسب عندما

  • If you grow in pots or plug trays on a bench: the heated seedling and sapling bench is the better solution.
  • If your aim is to prevent frost damage in the open or in a vineyard: see the frost protection heating cable.
  • If you need to hold the whole air volume of the greenhouse at a set temperature; soil warming on its own is not a substitute for air heating.
  • If you cannot carry out the ground work needed to bury it in the soil.

التركيب

The cable is laid at a depth that puts it beneath the root zone, at even spacing. In a commercial greenhouse, two runs of cable are laid either side of the roots for each planting row. The cables must not touch one another; heating cable cannot be cut.

Important: If a pick, spade or rotavator will be used over the cable, the route must be marked out. For automatic control, a temperature sensor and a control panel are used together.

Is the price for the whole greenhouse or per metre?
Prices are per metre. The amount you see is the price of 1 metre of heating cable; you order as many metres as you need.
How many metres of cable are needed?
The area to be heated, the number of planting rows and the row length are the determining factors. In a commercial greenhouse, two runs of cable are calculated for each planting row. After you order, our customer representative works the calculation through with you.
What is the difference between the two options?
The commercial greenhouse option is made for longer runs and higher total power. With the hobby greenhouse the control unit is sent with the system; with the commercial greenhouse the panel is bought separately.
Can I cut the cable to the length I want?
No. Heating cable is a fixed-resistance run; if it is cut, it will not work. For this reason the length calculation must be done correctly before ordering.
How long does the cable last beneath the soil?
The cables are made on the principle of long-term operation in damp soil. We have runs that have been working beneath greenhouse soil for 14 years.
