Overview

The drum heating jacket is a flexible electric heater that wraps the full body of 200, 215 and 220 litre drums, is set between 0 and 120 °C with its integrated digital thermostat and delivers between 1,200 W and 2,000 W. It is used to melt raw materials that solidify when cold — soap, hard fats, varnish, honey and oil-based products — or to lower their viscosity. Measuring 1,950 × 800 mm, the jacket fits drums of 573–621 mm outside diameter and is tightened with three straps using steel buckles and polyester webbing. The industrial electric drum heating jacket is for operations that need to bring drum contents up to process temperature without building a separate heated room.

Where it is used

P1000 — 1.200 W

Plastic drums and frost protection

Maximum jacket temperature 60 °C. The only model that can be used on plastic drums; the right rating for low-temperature applications, frost protection and keeping product flowing. It raises 200 litres of water from 10 °C to 50 °C in roughly 7.5 hours.

P1650 — 1.650 W

Honey, oils and viscous liquids

Maximum jacket temperature 75 °C. Mid-range heating: strong enough to melt, restrained enough not to stress heat-sensitive food and cosmetic raw materials. It completes the same heating in about 5.6 hours.

P2000 — 2.000 W

Steel drums and process heating

Maximum jacket temperature 90 °C. For process applications that need fast heat-up and high temperature. For steel drums only; it brings the same heating down to about 4.6 hours.

IndustryTypical application
Chemicals and petrochemicalsMelting chemical raw materials, reducing viscosity, pre-process preparation
LubricantsKeeping drummed oil pumpable in winter, frost protection
FoodMaking hard fats and honey flowable — usually the 1,650 W model
Soap, detergent, cosmetics and pharmaceuticalsWarming raw material before dosing, holding heat-sensitive products at a controlled temperature
Paint, varnish and coatingsAdjusting varnish consistency, thawing drums held in cold storage
Packaging, textiles, mining and metalsBringing auxiliary chemicals and adhesives up to process temperature

Is this the right product?

A good fit when

  • You have a 200, 215 or 220 litre drum with an outside diameter between 573 and 621 mm.
  • You are melting soap, hard fat, varnish, honey, oil-based products or chemical raw materials, or lowering their viscosity.
  • You want to heat the drum where it stands, without building a separate heated room or cabinet.
  • You work with one or two drums and the 60–70 °C band is sufficient for your process.
  • You do not want a separate thermostat, sensor and control panel — the digital control unit comes integrated into the jacket.

Not the right choice when

  • You have an IBC tank — the jacket is cut for cylindrical drums of 573–621 mm outside diameter and will not grip a cubic IBC body. The industrial IBC tank heating jacket is made for that geometry.
  • You are heating a bucket, canister or small container — the 1,950 × 800 mm jacket will not seat on these; the bucket heating jacket and canister heating jacket are made separately.
  • The product solidifies at the bottom of the drum — the jacket wraps the body and does not touch the base. The drum heating unit, which heats from below without moving the drum, is the better choice.
  • You need point control of the content temperature — the thermostat sensor reads the temperature between the jacket and the drum wall, not the contents. For verifiable content temperature, move to a cabinet solution.
  • You are heating four drums or more — each drum needs its own jacket and socket; at that scale a drum heating oven is more efficient.

Installation

Yes — the jacket needs no tools and fits in four steps. Place the jacket around the drum with the fixing straps at the top and the ISITMAX logo readable. Feed the three securing straps through the steel buckles and take up the slack on each. Join the upper fixing straps and tension them so the jacket seats against the drum. Make sure the jacket does not touch the floor and that no gap remains between it and the drum — an air gap reduces heat transfer and drives the jacket surface temperature up unnecessarily.

Frequently asked questions

Which drums does the drum heating jacket fit?
It fits 200, 215 and 220 litre drums with an outside diameter of 573–621 mm. The jacket measures 1,950 × 800 mm and is identical across all three power ratings; changing model does not change the fit range. If your container falls outside this range, custom sizes are made — send us the outside diameter and height.
Can I use the drum heating jacket on a plastic drum?
Only with the 1,200 W P1000 model. Do not use products above 1,000 W on plastic drums; the only option suitable for plastic is the 1,200 W model, which runs at a maximum of 60 °C. The 1,650 W and 2,000 W models are for steel drums.
How much time does the difference between 1,200 W and 2,000 W save?
About 2.9 hours when raising 200 litres of water from 10 °C to 50 °C. The 1,200 W jacket does this in roughly 7.5 hours, the 1,650 W jacket in 5.6 hours and the 2,000 W jacket in 4.6 hours. Total energy consumed is about 9.3 kWh in all three cases; the higher-rated model does not use more, it uses it faster.
Do I need to buy a separate thermostat or control panel for the drum heating jacket?
No. The digital control unit and thermostat come integrated into the jacket and are adjustable between 0 and 120 °C; the product is powered through its 3-metre lead and works on its own. A separate heating control panel is only needed if you want to manage several jackets from one point.
What thermostat setting gives what temperature inside the drum?
There is no direct equivalent; the thermostat sensor reads the temperature between the jacket surface and the drum wall, not the drum contents. For that reason you should measure the product temperature during the first cycles and establish your own set point. If you always run the same raw material, this setting only has to be found once.
