Overview

Valley and gutter heating is a system that prevents snow melting off the roof from freezing again inside the gutter, and prevents the ice dam that blocks the drainage. HMax self-regulating heating cable or RoofMat metal mat is laid in the base of the gutter; which one to use is your decision. The gutter width is not a rule imposed on you but a threshold showing only which options will fit: in 10–20 cm gutters a single row of cable is enough, from 20 cm a double row of cable can be chosen, and from 30 cm RoofMat mat as well. Someone with a 30 cm gutter makes their own choice between a double row of cable and 30 cm mat; someone with a 40 cm gutter, between 30 cm and 40 cm mat. The system runs only when there is a risk of icing, and on runs longer than 20 metres it is managed from a control panel.

Where it is used

Ekoline · 24,480 ₺

With temperature sensor

Ekoline · 24,480 ₺ It switches the run on when the air drops below a set threshold and off when it rises. It is sufficient on house and villa gutters.

Proline Roof · 41,600 ₺

With temperature and moisture sensors

Proline Roof · 41,600 ₺ If there is no risk of icing in the air, it does not run even in the cold. On commercial buildings and long runs it lowers the operating cost markedly.

Maxline Roof · 62,080 ₺

EBERLE regulator and sensors

Maxline Roof · 62,080 ₺ It works on the same logic as Proline; the regulator and sensors are EBERLE. It is the choice on industrial projects and those with a specification.

Is this the right product?

A good fit when

  • Your gutter or roof valley ices up in winter and the drainage stops; the brackets bend or icicles form beneath the eaves.
  • Your gutter width is between 10 and 50 cm and can be measured as a straight run.
  • A concealed gutter behind a parapet or an internal valley is also covered; the measurement is taken from the mouth width in the same way.
  • Your gutter material is galvanised steel, copper, aluminium, steel or PVC.
  • The application will be made to an existing gutter afterwards; the cable and mat lie inside the gutter and there is no need to remove it.

Not the right choice when

  • If the real problem is the ice dam at the roof edge and snow shedding — Roof Eaves Heating solves that.
  • If what blocks is the downpipe — Downpipe Heating runs the cable through the inside of the pipe.
  • If you are heating a ramp, courtyard or driveway — Snow and Ice Melting Under Concrete is a separate system.
  • If the gutter width is above 50 cm — a project-based survey is required and it cannot be ordered from this page.

Installation

  1. PreparationThe inside of the gutter is cleared of leaves and sediment, and the joints and outlet mouths are checked. No obstruction is left along the line where the cable or mat will sit.
  2. Laying the heaterThe cable is fixed to the base of the gutter with fixing strips; if you have chosen a double row, the two runs are spaced evenly across the gutter width. If mat is used, it is laid into the base in one piece. The end that goes down into the downpipe is lowered through the mouth of the pipe.
  3. Sensor and electrical connectionThe temperature sensor is placed at a point that stays in shade and the moisture sensor inside the gutter. A qualified electrician makes the panel connection and the supply line.
Who should install it? On single-zone, short and easily reached gutters your own electrician can carry out the work. On long runs, multi-block complexes and tall roofs, installation by the company is recommended — roof and gutter installation is assessed separately after a survey. No work is done on a roof without safety measures in place.

Warranty and support

Yes. Up to 20 metres a valley and gutter heating run can be switched on and off from its own fuse; you may still choose a panel at this length if you wish. Above 20 metres a panel is mandatory and an installation without one falls outside the warranty. If there is also an eaves or downpipe run on the same roof, choose the panel on one product only — a single panel manages all three runs, and on the others "Panel to be bought separately" is ticked.

Frequently asked questions

Which solution should I choose for valley and gutter heating?
In gutters between 10 and 20 cm a single row of cable is enough. From 20 cm a double row of cable can be chosen, and from 30 cm RoofMat mat as well — the choice is yours. Someone with a 30 cm gutter chooses between a double row of cable and 30 cm mat; someone with a 40 cm gutter, between 30 cm and 40 cm mat. Cable is more economical, mat gives wider coverage.
Can I really use it without buying a panel up to 20 metres?
Why is mat more expensive than cable?
The mat has a metal carrier and factory fixing labour alongside the cable; it arrives with the cable already arranged at even spacing. The price per square metre of RoofMat mat is 6,500 ₺; at 30 cm wide that works out at 1,950 ₺ per metre, and at 40 cm wide 2,600 ₺. The same mat is also used in eaves heating.
Do I need to heat the downpipe as well?
With valley and gutter heating, if the meltwater freezes again in the downpipe the run still blocks. It is therefore recommended that the run be planned together with the downpipe; a single row of cable is enough on the vertical run.
Should I heat the roof eaves as well?
Valley and gutter heating clears the ice inside the gutter; it does not stop the water flowing from the roof edge into the gutter from freezing. In regions with a heavy snow load, eaves heating is carried out as well; a band 50 cm wide is usually heated, rising to 1 metre in the eastern provinces.
