The Floor Heating Technical Thermal and Acoustic Insulation Underlay is a thin floor heating insulation underlay laid beneath the electric heating system; it stops heat escaping downwards and provides acoustic insulation in the same layer. Made by ISITMAX under the name İzomax UnderWood, this underlay goes between the heating cable or mat and the concrete; it reflects the heat back into the living space, raises efficiency and lowers consumption. It is made in four thicknesses — 7, 10, 15 and 20 mm — all of them 100 cm wide. It is a complementary product: it does not heat on its own, but it determines how much of your heating system reaches the room.

It turns heat escaping downwards back upwards

Heat takes the easiest path; if there is resistance below, it goes up. The system reaches the target sooner and holds comfort with less electricity.

2 · Acoustic insulation

It absorbs the sound of a hard floor

On parquet, laminate, vinyl and ceramic, impact sound passes into the structure and, in an apartment building, is carried to the neighbour below. The underlay absorbs this noise.

مناسب عندما

You are installing electric floor heating; the heating element will go directly on top of the concrete.
There is an unheated space below you: a basement, garage, shop, or a floor sitting on the ground.
You are in an apartment; you want to reduce the footfall and impact sound of a hard floor.
You will lay ceramic, floor tile or marble over the existing screed and will not raise the floor.
Your allowance for level is tight and alternative thermal insulation solutions are too thick.

غير مناسب عندما

If you have no allowance for level at all — in a renovation where the threshold, the door leaf and the stair tread allow no rise whatsoever, even the thinnest option at 7 mm adds to the layer height; the doors would have to be trimmed or the threshold changed. If you would rather not, carry on without underlay.
If your heating system is already laid — the underlay goes beneath the heating element and cannot be added afterwards.
If there is insulated screed below you — a second layer gives no noticeable benefit; putting the budget into a programmable floor heating thermostat saves more.
If you are looking for waterproofing — the underlay does not hold moisture, but it does not replace a waterproofing layer. In a wet room, waterproofing is carried out separately.
If your aim is purely acoustic on an unheated floor — this product follows the layer order of floor heating.

Will the system not work without floor heating insulation underlay?

It will — the underlay is not a mandatory part. But if the heating element sits on bare concrete, some of the heat produced goes downwards; the underlay closes that path, the system reaches the target sooner and uses less electricity for the same comfort. The difference is greatest on a floor sitting on the ground and above an unheated space.

Is floor heating insulation underlay laid beneath the heating or over it?

Beneath. The order is: floor, underlay, heating cable or mat, covering. If it is placed on top it traps the heat beneath itself rather than sending it into the room; this is why it cannot be added once the heating is laid.

How much does floor heating insulation underlay raise the floor?

By the thickness you choose: 7, 10, 15 or 20 mm. The thickness of the covering and of any adhesive mortar is added to this. Measure the gap under the door, the threshold and the stair tread level in advance; in a renovation with a tight allowance for level, 7 mm is chosen.

Which thickness should I choose?

Look at what is below you. If there is a heated flat, 7 or 10 mm is enough; the real gain there is acoustic insulation. If there is a basement, garage or unheated shop, 15 mm is recommended, and 20 mm on a floor sitting on the ground. If your allowance for level limits the choice, the level decides.

What does Rm 0.19 mean?

It is the thermal resistance value given for a thickness of 7 mm; the larger the value, the greater the insulating power. The thermal conductivity calculated from it is roughly 0.037 W/m·K. The 10, 15 and 20 mm versions give a higher resistance; their measured values are given in the quotation.
