Overview
A heated flange and valve jacket is a removable insulating jacket that wraps and heats the point on a pipeline that freezes first and loses the most heat — the flange, valve, elbow or union. You protect the pipe body with heating cable; but a valve on the line is a mass of metal that cannot be wrapped neatly with cable and whose surface area is three or four times that of the pipe. When a line is running, that is almost always the first place to freeze.
A heated flange and valve jacket is a flexible sleeve with a heating element and insulating layer inside, slipped over the valve body from the outside and closed with clasps. It does two jobs at once: it reduces heat loss at that point with insulation and makes up the remaining difference with its own heating element. Because the jacket is removable it is not cut away when work on the valve is needed — the clasps are opened, it is set aside, and refitted when the job is done.

Glass fibre woven shellOuter surface The outward-facing face of the jacket is woven glass fibre. It protects the inner layers against abrasion, chemical splashing and heat in an industrial environment. The surface is black.
Double-layer carbon insulationMiddle layer The heat-retaining part of the jacket is a purpose-made double layer of carbon insulation. It directs the heat produced by the element towards the valve body rather than outwards.
Silicone-insulated heating elementHeating layer An aluminium-layered, silicone-insulated heating element is fitted inside the jacket with Kevlar stitching. It is not a loose wire that can be washed out or slip out of place.

Installation
Fitting a heated flange and valve jacket needs no special tools or welder. Follow the sequence without changing it.
Electrical connection: The jacket supply must always be taken through a residual current device (RCD). Earthing must not be omitted. Have the electrical connection made by a qualified electrician.

Frequently asked questions
What valve sizes does the heated flange and valve jacket fit?
There are two size ranges: DN10–DN50 (3/8″–2″) and DN50–DN150 (2″–6″). Selection is based not on the valve's own size but on the nominal diameter of the pipe it sits on. For valves above DN150 and for special geometries, the jacket is made to measure.
Do I need to buy a separate thermostat with the jacket?
No. A digital control unit is integrated in all models. It is included in the price; you do not need to buy one separately.
Can I still open and close the valve after fitting the jacket?
Yes. The jacket wraps the valve body and the flanges; the handle, the stem and the actuator, if fitted, remain free outside the jacket. It does not obstruct the movement of the valve.
If I need to service the valve, do I have to cut the jacket open?
No. The heated flange and valve jacket is a removable product. Once you switch off the power and the jacket has cooled, you release the fasteners, set it aside, and refit it when the work is done. The same jacket can be removed and refitted many times.
My pipeline already has heating cable — is a jacket also needed?
Yes. Heating cable is intended for straight pipe runs; it cannot be brought into proper contact with valve and flange bodies. If the valves are left unprotected, the line freezes at that point even when the cable has been selected correctly. The two are used together, not as alternatives to one another.
