    A cold store floor heating cable is an electrical system that holds the ground beneath the store's concrete slab above freezing point. The aim is not to heat the inside of the store — it is to stop the ground beneath a space running at sub-zero temperatures from freezing, expanding and lifting the slab from below. The heater used is TMax cable of constant 17 W/m: an average of 4 metres of cable is laid per 1 m², and the system comes together with an Ekoline control unit. The cable form lets you adjust the laying spacing on site in stores whose floor area is narrow, angular or irregular.

ISITMAX manufactures TMax cable of constant 17 W/m for this job; the cable is prepared at the length calculated for the site, comes together with its fixing strip and is laid before the concrete is poured.

    The right choice on irregular, narrow and angular floors

    The cable comes at the calculated length together with its fixing strip; you set the spacing on site. It is the only answer when you need to work around obstacles such as column bases, machine plinths, manhole covers and rack anchors, or to tighten the spacing in critical areas such as doorways. It is also the most flexible form for applications over reinforcement mesh.

    Shortens the laying work on regular, wide floors

    The cable is arranged at the correct spacing at the factory on a carrier 50 cm or 100 cm wide. The roll is unrolled and laid side by side, and at turns only the carrier is cut. Because the laying spacing is fixed at the factory, the margin for error on site is low. A consumables charge also applies to the mat form.

    Passend, wenn

    • You are building or renewing a cold store, ice house or ice rink and want to prevent the ground beneath the floor from freezing and damaging the foundation.
    • The floor is being newly poured — the cable is fixed onto the insulation or to the reinforcement mesh, with at least 5 cm of screed over it.
    • Your floor is irregularly shaped, narrow or angular and you want to be able to adjust the laying spacing on site.
    • You plan to fix the cable onto the reinforcement mesh; the free form suits you better than mat.
    • You operate a critical store (pharmaceuticals, vaccines, high-value food) and are considering the redundant system option.

    Nicht geeignet, wenn

    • If your floor is a regular rectangle and you want a quick installation — the Cold Store Floor Heating Mat, the mat form of the same cable, shortens the laying time markedly.
    • If you do not want to break up the existing concrete — this is a system that goes beneath the floor; it cannot be added to the surface afterwards.
    • If the sprinkler line inside the store is freezing — Fire Sprinkler Line Frost Protection is a separate system mounted on the pipe.
    • If you are melting snow and ice outdoors — store floor protection works for frost protection and does not melt snow; for ramps and courtyards, Snow and Ice Melting Under Concrete is the right product.
    • If you are heating an enclosed space for comfort — this system is designed to hold the floor above freezing point; it does not heat the space.

    Installation

    Installing a cold store floor heating cable runs hand in hand with the concrete pour and there is no going back — once the pour is finished, reaching the cable means breaking up the concrete. Your own team can do the laying; the connection to the control unit and the supply line must be left to a qualified electrician.

    Do not skip the resistance measurement before the concrete is poured. If a cable crushed during laying or a faulty splice ends up under the concrete, the only remedy is to break up the slab. During the pour, do not let the vibrator head touch the cable directly.

    What is the difference between the standard and the redundant system?
    The standard system uses 4 metres of cable per 1 m² and a single Ekoline control unit. The redundant system uses 8 metres of cable per 1 m² — that is, two independent circuits and two Ekoline units. The redundant system keeps the protection running even if the main system fails.
    At what spacing should the cables be laid?
    The standard application uses 4 metres of cable per 1 m². This means laying at roughly 25 cm spacing. The values in the installation manual must be observed; the runs must not overlap or be brought close to one another.
    How many metres of cable per square metre are needed, and how do I calculate the length?
    Multiply the net area to be heated by four: an average of 4 metres of TMax cable goes into 1 m². A net 60 m² floor needs 240 metres, or 480 metres in a redundant system. The net area is not the gross area — fixed rack plinths, column bases and the edge strip are not counted.
    What should the minimum concrete thickness be?
    At least 5 cm of screed or floor mortar must be poured over the cables. This thickness protects the cables from mechanical damage and lets the heat spread evenly.
    Why choose cable rather than the mat system?
    The cable system is ideal for irregularly shaped areas and for applications over reinforcement mesh. You set the laying spacing on site and can work around obstacles. The mat system, on the other hand, is chosen on regular rectangular areas because it shortens the laying time. The heater in both is the same TMax cable.
