Überblick

Eberle DIN-rail thermostats are control units that manage snow and ice melting and frost protection heating automatically. They evaluate the signals from the temperature and moisture sensors together: heating runs only while the air temperature is within the range you have set and there is genuine precipitation or meltwater on the surface. This way the heating element does not waste electricity in dry cold or in mild rain. From this page you can choose the thermostat on its own, or a ready-made roof or ground set with the sensors supplied in the box.

An Eberle DIN-rail thermostat does not behave like a simple time switch but like a control unit that looks for two conditions at once. The unit needs two pieces of information. The temperature sensor reports whether the air or surface temperature is within the range you have set; the moisture sensor detects whether there is precipitation or meltwater on the surface. When the temperature condition is met the moisture sensor goes into standby, heating comes on the moment wetness is registered, and it does not switch off until the moisture signal ends or the temperature leaves the set range. The run-on time after heating can be fixed manually, operating hours can be read from the counter, and status can be signalled externally through the volt-free signal terminal.

Einsatzbereiche

EM 524 89 — single-zone thermostat

The main control unit, managing a single heating zone

Sensors are not supplied in the box. Choose this model if you want to select the temperature and moisture sensors to suit your application separately, or if you already have compatible sensors. It is sufficient for a single ramp, gutter run or open area.

EM 524 90 — dual-zone thermostat

Manages two independent zones with separate sensors and separate thresholds

For example a garage ramp on one side and a roof gutter on the other. Each zone has its own sensor set and its own operating threshold; one can run while the other stays off. For those who want a single unit instead of two separate thermostats.

EM 524 89 DR — roof and gutter control set

Thermostat and two sensors together for roof applications

The box contains a TFD 524 004 roof surface temperature sensor and an ESD 524 003 roof moisture sensor. For those who want to automate gutter, valley and eaves heating without selecting components piece by piece.

EM 524 89 FF — under-concrete / outdoor ground control set

Thermostat and two ground sensors together for ground applications

The box contains a TFF 524 002 ground surface temperature sensor and an ESF 524 001 ground moisture sensor. For circuits embedded in concrete such as ramps, courtyards and garage entrances; the sensors are positioned during the pour.

Ist dies das richtige Produkt?

Passend, wenn

  • You want to manage your snow melting or roof de-icing circuit automatically with an Eberle DIN-rail thermostat rather than by hand.
  • You have your own electrical panel installed, with spare DIN rail and a fuse arrangement in place.
  • You have a qualified electrical technician to carry out the installation.
  • You want to manage two separate areas from one unit with different thresholds (EM 524 90).
  • You are looking for a ready-made roof or ground package without having to select sensors (DR and FF).

Nicht geeignet, wenn

  • If you want a complete solution including panel, fuses, contactor and wiring, a heating control panel is the better choice.
  • If you are only replacing sensors you do not need to buy a thermostat: see the Eberle temperature and moisture sensor page.
  • You will be controlling indoor floor heating by room temperature — a floor heating thermostat is needed for that.
  • You require the unit to be controlled from your phone; these models have no Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • You will be using it on a site with a hazardous area classification; the units are not explosion protected.

Installation

Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrical technician with the supply isolated. The Eberle DIN-rail thermostat clips onto the DIN rail in your panel; the supply and heating output are wired to the terminals. Sensor cables must be routed separately from power cables — long parallel runs in the same trunking can introduce interference into the measurement. The DR and FF sets are protection class IP20; the unit must remain inside a closed panel, in a dry environment that does not freeze.

Garantie und Support

All Eberle DIN-rail thermostat models carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty. The warranty covers faults arising from manufacture and materials; installation-related damage such as incorrect wiring, overloading, a crushed sensor cable or a panel exposed to water is excluded. Our technical support team is available Monday–Saturday 09:00–17:00. You can also consult us before ordering on model selection, sensor compatibility, whether a contactor is required and sensor positioning. The warranty starts automatically with the invoice and needs no separate registration; full conditions are on the SafeMax Warranty Programme page.

Häufige Fragen

Which heating cables do Eberle DIN-rail thermostats work with?
The control unit switches the supply to the cable, not the cable itself, so it is brand independent. Our own TMax and TMaxPro series-resistance cables, HMax and SMax self-regulating cables, and the EasyMat, ProMat and RoofMat matting made from the same cables all work with these units. The only thing to check is total current: if the circuit exceeds the unit's switching limit, a contactor is fitted in between.
I have bought an EM 524 89 — where do I get the sensors?
Eberle DIN-rail thermostat models sold on their own do not include sensors in the box. You can order the sensors suited to your application separately from the Eberle temperature and moisture sensor page. Roof sensors are used on roofs and ground sensors under concrete. If you are unsure, ask us before ordering.
What difference does it make to buy the thermostat and sensors separately instead of a set?
Technically you arrive at the same result; the set is simply the two sensors most often used in that application, boxed with the thermostat, which removes the work of matching components. If your sensor requirement is non-standard, buying the thermostat on its own is more flexible.
The load of my heating circuit exceeds the unit's maximum rating — should I change model?
No. A contactor is wired to the thermostat output and carries the actual load; the thermostat only switches the coil. On sites above a few kilowatts this is standard practice. Send us the total load and we will help select the contactor.
Does the dual-zone model replace two separate thermostats?
Yes, it is designed to manage two independent zones from a single unit. Each zone has its own sensors and its own operating threshold, and the zones come on independently of each other. It saves panel space and brings the settings together in one place.
