Überblick

A heat trace junction box is the point, exposed to outdoor conditions, where the heating cable is connected to the supply. A wrongly chosen or leaking box puts the whole heat trace circuit behind it out of service; it is the weakest link in the run. The six types here cover the power, sensor and distribution connections of self-regulating heating cables for different site requirements.

On a heat trace circuit the cable runs protected beneath the insulation; the geometry of the pipe itself largely shields it from crushing, water and UV. The only unprotected point is where the cable meets the supply cable. The heat trace junction box encloses precisely that point in a sealed body.

Einsatzbereiche

HTB100

Standard power connection point

The most common box, where the heating cable meets the supply cable. As standard it has 1 power and 1 heating cable entry; with accessory options this can be increased to as many as 3 heating cable entries. The first choice on single-circuit pipelines.

HTBS100

Sensor and control cable only

Collects the control cables of temperature sensors, connecting one or two control cables from one or three sensors. Its terminals are for small cross-sections (0.5–2.5 mm²) and no power circuit is connected to this box.

HTBC100

Power and sensor in one enclosure

Brings the supply and sensor connections together in one enclosure, with the heating cables able to be joined inside the box. It has separate entries for supply cables from different power circuits. Up to four self-regulating heating cables can be connected.

HTBL100

Shows at a glance whether the circuit is live

The same enclosure and connection arrangement as the HTB100, with a green LED added. Whether the circuit is live can be seen without going to the panel. On long runs and multi-circuit installations it noticeably shortens fault finding.

HTB1000

One supply, several circuits

The central distribution box used to take several heating circuits from a single supply. It is rated for a 100 A load, 750 V working voltage and 2.5–35 mm² terminal cross-sections. It is wall mounted.

HTB2000

For high-temperature cables

The box where high-temperature heating cables are connected to the supply. Two cable sections can be connected in loop configuration and three in star configuration. For pipe temperatures above 200 °C, mounting to a wall or adjacent metalwork is recommended.

Ist dies das richtige Produkt?

Passend, wenn

  • You are connecting self-regulating heat trace cable to a supply circuit.
  • The connection point is outdoors, in the open or in a damp space.
  • You need to collect the control cables of temperature sensors on site.
  • You will be taking several heating circuits from a single supply.
  • The surface temperature of the process line is high and a standard box is not sufficient.

Nicht geeignet, wenn

  • You want to seal a cable end or splice two cables; a splice and termination kit is the more appropriate and more economical solution for that.
  • You are using a cable with a plug and a ready-made connection; no junction box is needed.
  • You are looking for an enclosure to house a thermostat and protective devices; a heating control panel is needed for that.

Installation

The heat trace junction box is positioned to meet the supply end of the heating cable. The HTB100, HTBS100, HTBC100 and HTBL100 can be mounted directly to the pipe, to a wall or to nearby metalwork using the support bracket supplied. The HTB1000 is wall mounted. On the HTB2000, the mounting position is chosen according to surface temperature: for pipe temperatures above 200 °C, mounting to a wall or adjacent metalwork is recommended.

Recommendation: Carry out an insulation resistance test before commissioning and visually check that the lid gasket is fully seated.

Garantie und Support

A 2-year manufacturer warranty applies to all heat trace junction box types. ISITMAX has manufactured its own electric heating products since 1995; manufacturing is CE certified. Technical support is available Monday–Saturday 09:00–17:00. Project-based support is available on selection, gland configuration and commissioning. The warranty starts automatically with the invoice; full conditions are on the SafeMax Warranty Programme page. Excluded: unauthorised intervention, incorrect cable cross-section, and water ingress caused by installation with an untightened gland.

Häufige Fragen

How many heat trace junction boxes does one circuit need?
The rule is simple: one power box for each supply point, and one sensor box for each point where sensor cables are collected. If you want to combine the two in one enclosure, the HTBC100 combination model reduces the number of mounting points. Where several circuits are taken from one supply, an HTB1000 distribution box goes in between. Send us the circuit diagram and we will work out the quantities with you.
Can I connect the cable directly to the supply cable without a heat trace junction box?
It is not recommended outdoors. The connection point is exposed to moisture, dust and temperature change; an unprotected joint leads to earth leakage and a circuit that stops working. The box encloses that point in an IP66 body.
Is the LED indicating model really necessary?
It is not essential. The LED, however, shows on site whether the circuit is live; on long runs and multi-circuit installations you can see which circuit has lost supply without going to the panel. On short single-circuit runs the standard HTB100 is sufficient.
Should I buy two separate boxes for power and sensors?
If you want to keep the two separate, use the HTB100 together with the HTBS100. If you want them in one place, the HTBC100 combination box takes both connections in the same enclosure and reduces the number of mounting points.
How many heating circuits can I take from one supply?
The HTB1000 distribution box is used for this: 100 A load, 750 V, 2.5–35 mm² terminal cross-sections. The number of circuits must be engineered according to the total current drawn by your installation.
