Overview

The gas cylinder heating jacket is a flexible heater that wraps the body of upright cylindrical vessels such as gas cylinders and maintains the temperature of the liquid or gas inside. It is used to recover the pressure that drops in the cold in LPG, propane and acetylene cylinders, and to prevent chemical, food and pharmaceutical liquids from freezing and becoming viscous. The jacket is tightened around the cylinder with a strap and steel buckle; it is made in five standard sizes from 7 litres to 34 litres, with power between 200 and 600 W. Its precise digital thermostat is set between 0 and 90 °C, and the safe upper limit of the jacket is 60 °C. It is the member of the tank and drum heating family that addresses the smallest vessels.

P600/7 — 7 L

Small-volume cylinders, 200 W

A 500 × 150 mm jacket. For small gas cylinders and laboratory and sample vessels. The model that draws the least electricity and heats up fastest.

P600/18 ve P600/19 — 18–19 L

Medium-sized cylinders, 400 W

Jackets of 860 × 140 mm and 940 × 140 mm. The power and band height are the same and only the length differs: for two different body diameters within the same volume class.

P600/34 ve P600/34/2 — 34 L

Large-volume cylinders, 600 W

Jackets of 870 × 200 mm and 930 × 200 mm. The band widens to 200 mm and the heat spreads over a broader belt. Two lengths, for short-and-wide and long-and-narrow body shapes.

Is this the right product?

A good fit when

You do not want the gas flow to stop in an LPG, propane or acetylene cylinder whose pressure drops in the cold.
You need to keep a chemical, food or pharmaceutical liquid in a cylindrical vessel from freezing and becoming viscous.
The circumference of your cylinder is between 500 and 940 mm, or you are open to having one made to measure.
Your target temperature is below 60 °C and you want to set it precisely.
You are looking for a set that works without getting into separate sensors, thermostats and panels.

Not the right choice when

If you have a 1000 litre IBC tank — a cube-bodied tank cannot be wrapped with this jacket; the heating jacket for IBC tanks is cut to that geometry.
If your vessel is larger than 34 litres — the largest jacket length is 940 mm. Canisters up to 120 litres are heated with the canister heating jacket, and 200 litre drums with the drum heating jacket.
If your vessel is a tapered, wide-mouthed bucket — a cylindrical cut will not sit properly even at 19 litres; the bucket heating jacket is the right product.
If a surface temperature above 60 °C is required: the maximum temperature of the jacket is 60 °C.
If you are heating pipe, valves or process equipment: the heated pipe and valve jacket is made for those geometries.

Installation

Yes — the jacket needs no tools and is fitted by one person. Wrap the jacket around the body of the cylinder, bring the ends together, then pass the polyester strap through the steel buckle and tighten it. It is important that the inner surface contacts the body at every point; if an air gap is left, heat transfer falls and the jacket's own surface temperature rises unnecessarily. Clean the outside of the cylinder before wrapping and leave no caked-on material or label residue.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature does the gas cylinder heating jacket reach?

The maximum temperature of the jacket is 60 °C. The precise digital thermostat on the control unit is set on a scale from 0 to 90 °C; you must keep your operating temperature below 60 °C. This range is enough to hold many liquids and gases safely.

Do I also need to buy a thermostat or control panel?

No. A digital control unit comes integrated in all models, and the jacket runs by connecting to the 230 V mains with its 2 metre lead. A separate heating control panel is only needed if you want to manage more than one jacket from a single point.

How do I choose the right size?

Wrap a tape measure around the body of the cylinder to measure its circumference and choose the nearest jacket length: 500, 860, 870, 930 or 940 mm. If you are working from the diameter, divide the circumference by 3.14; a 940 mm length, for example, corresponds to an outside diameter of about 299 mm. Volume is the second criterion: 200 W for 7 litres, 400 W for 18–19 litres, 600 W for 34 litres.

Does it really increase the pressure in a gas cylinder?

The jacket does not increase the pressure — it stops it from falling. In cold weather, as the temperature of the gas inside the cylinder drops, so does the pressure, and the flow weakens. By holding the gas at the ideal temperature the jacket prevents this drop, so the gas flow continues without interruption. This is its most common job on LPG, propane and acetylene cylinders.

How long does it take to heat up?

According to measurements, raising the contents from 10 °C to 50 °C takes about 2 hours on the P600/7, about 6.7 hours on the P600/34 and about 10 hours on the P600/18. These figures vary considerably with the type of contents, the starting temperature, the fill level and the ambient temperature; a cylinder full of gas and one full of liquid do not heat up in the same time.
