Hammam floor heating warms the walking area, seating area, backrest area and navel stone of a hammam with a 240 W/m² electric heater embedded beneath the marble, travertine or ceramic. This is the highest rating in the HomeMax family and is calculated for hammams alone. The heater is either TMax cable clipped into fixing strip or EasyMat ready-made matting with the cable laid on mesh; the cable inside both is the same, and so is the price per square metre. It is prepared for areas between 2 and 24 m² for homes, villas, hotels and commercial hammams.

In a bathroom 180 W/m² is enough because the target there is a floor at 22–25 °C. In a hammam the target is 40–45 °C: people sit on the marble with bare skin and expect the surface to be close to body temperature. The difference is not only comfort but heat loss.

The most flexible solution for the stepped geometry of a hammam

TMax cable + fixing strip Single-conductor, series-resistance TMax cable clips into the fixing strip and runs at roughly 10 cm spacing; on average 10 metres of cable per square metre. It climbs onto the step of the seating area and up the plinth of the navel stone, turning down to a 30 mm bending radius. The fixing strip is included in the price.

Shortens laying time on wide marble floors

EasyMat ready-made matting The same cable laid on a rigid fibreglass mesh; it comes as an under-marble heating mat in 50 and 100 cm widths and roughly 6 mm thick. The roll is unrolled and taped down; when changing direction cut the mesh only and never touch the cable.

Ist dies das richtige Produkt?

Passend, wenn

  • You are building a domestic, villa, hotel or commercial hammam and the surfaces will be finished in marble, travertine, natural stone or ceramic.
  • The walking area, seating area, backrest area and navel stone together come to between 2 and 24 m².
  • You want to run the navel stone as a separate zone at 45–55 °C, or you are converting to electric the section where your wet system has not performed.
  • You are looking for a system that works without a boiler room; your circuit has a 30 mA residual current device, or you will have one fitted.

Nicht geeignet, wenn

  • You are heating an ordinary bathroom floor. 240 W/m² is an unnecessary connected load; the correct rating is the 180 W/m² of bathroom floor heating.
  • You are heating a kitchen, living room, bedroom or hallway. Kitchen floor heating and room and living room floor heating are calculated at 150 W/m².
  • You expect a steam experience from the hammam. This system heats surfaces; plan the steam generator separately.
  • You do not want to lift the existing marble, or your area exceeds 24 m². The heater is embedded beneath the finish, and this product's range ends at 24 m².
  • The floor will be finished with parquet or laminate. Timber will not withstand this humidity and temperature; laminate held above 25 °C for long periods swells and delaminates, whereas hammam surfaces run at 40–45 °C.

Installation

  1. PreparationThe floor, seating area and navel stone plinth are cleaned; surfaces must be dry and level. Areas that will not be heated — the basin body, the sides of the navel stone, blank walls — are marked out. The underlay is laid, including over the plinth. If you have chosen cable, the fixing strips are secured.
  2. LayingIn the walking area, TMax cable is clipped into the fixing strip lugs at roughly 10 cm spacing, never going below the 30 mm bending radius even on the tightest turn. With matting the roll is unrolled and taped down, cutting the mesh only at turns. It is taped down on the seating area and plugged to the backrest area; the runs are brought closer together around the drain. The sensor conduit is placed exactly midway between two runs.
  3. Connection, testing, screed and marbleThe cables are run to the thermostat box outside the hammam. An electrician makes the connection; the circuit is protected by a 30 mA residual current device and the earth is bonded to the busbar. A resistance test is carried out before screeding. Once the test is passed, 2–5 cm of screed is laid over the heater, the marble is set, and the system is brought into service gradually after the screed has cured.
Small dimensional deviations do not stop the installation. The position of the heating cables can be adjusted while laying; if you find a difference of a few centimetres, carry on by widening or narrowing the spacing. The one thing you must not do is shorten the cable — it is series-resistance cable and the system will not work if it is cut.

Häufige Fragen

Why does hammam floor heating need 240 W/m²?
Because the target surface temperature is 40–45 °C in a hammam and 45–55 °C on the navel stone, far above the 22–25 °C band of a bathroom. Steam condenses on a cold surface, wet marble loses heat through evaporation, and the mass of hammam marble is considerable.
Can the navel stone be heated from the same circuit as the walking area?
It can be, but we do not recommend it. The navel stone needs 45–55 °C and the walking area 40 °C; wired to a single thermostat, one stays cold while the other gets hotter than necessary. The correct approach is to make the navel stone a separate zone with its own thermostat and sensor.
How long does the hammam take to heat — do I need to switch it on in advance?
Yes, you need to switch it on in advance. The walking and seating areas under thin screed reach target in about 45 minutes; a navel stone with a thick slab takes longer. The system starts from completely cold every time it is used. The thickness of the marble only extends this initial warm-up and is not decisive once the system is up to temperature. The best approach is to set up a pre-heating programme.
Is a wifi thermostat genuinely useful with hammam floor heating?
More useful here than in any other space. Because the system heats from cold each time, it has to be switched on before use; unless your hammam day is fixed, that is only practical with remote starting. Correct timing gives savings of 20–30%.
Does hammam floor heating produce steam?
No. The system heats the marble surfaces and raises the room temperature, but it does not increase relative humidity. The device that saturates a hammam with steam is a steam generator and is planned separately. The two work much better together, because steam does not condense on cold marble when the surfaces are warm.
