Industrial tank heat tracing is a heating cable system wrapped around the body of storage and process tanks: it prevents the liquid inside freezing, or holds it at a temperature that maintains flowability. It differs from pipe heating in how it is sized: the calculation is based on the surface area to be heated, not the length of the run. The packages on this page are offered in eight steps from 5 m² to 100 m²; cable, fixing materials and engineering are included in the package.
A tank cools the liquid inside it towards ambient temperature. In winter that means freezing; and with viscous fluids such as resin, honey, oil and molasses it means becoming unpumpable long before freezing point is reached. Tank heat tracing solves both problems the same way: a heating cable wrapped around the body replaces the heat the tank loses from its surface.
In water, process water, drainage and fire water tanks the aim is simply to prevent freezing. The system runs in winter only when the temperature falls below the threshold; for most of the year it is off.
In resin, honey, oil and chemical tanks the aim is to maintain flowability. The target temperature is set by the product and the system runs all year round, which makes insulation thickness and panel selection more critical.

ISITMAX has manufactured electric heating products in its own facility since 1995; manufacturing, including the industrial tank heat tracing packages, is CE certified. The concept of heat transfer is a good starting point for the physics behind tank heating: the system supplies just enough power to replace the heat the tank loses from its surface by convection and radiation.
