Overview

A silicone-insulated pipe heating cable (heat trace) is a heating cable wrapped around or run along the surface of pipe and tank lines to prevent freezing or to hold the liquid inside at a target temperature. The silicone insulation withstands high temperatures and chemicals, while the metal braid provides mechanical protection and earthing. This page brings together four cable constructions from the same family; all can be cut on site and come with an integrated cold lead.

At a glance

Price per metreThe amount listed is for 1 metre; you order as many metres as your line requires.
Can be cut on siteThe cable is cut to the length of the run during installation.
Integrated cold leadThe cold lead is integrated into the cable; no separate transition joint is needed.
CE-certified manufactureISITMAX manufacture since 1995. 2-year manufacturer warranty.

Where it is used

Twin-conductor, cuttable silicone

The most economical option for runs that stay beneath insulation

Twin conductors, silicone insulation, metal braid with earth protection, silicone outer insulation. Because the outer layer is also silicone, it is flexible throughout. Choose it for runs that will sit beneath pipe insulation and will not take impact.

Braided, cuttable silicone

Braid on the outside, mechanical protection first

Cuttable construction, silicone or high-temperature silicone insulation, with metal braid and earthing over it. Because the braid remains as the outer layer, it gives direct protection against abrasion and impact. Suitable for runs where mechanical loading matters and chemical contact is not expected.

Silicone insulated with metal braid

Twin-conductor construction with a polyethylene sheath over the braid

Twin-conductor arrangement, silicone insulation, metal braid with earthing, and a polyethylene sheath as the outermost layer. The sheath protects the metal braid from moisture and chemicals. Choose this construction for exposed runs subject to the weather or chemical splashing.

Parallel silicone + metal braid + polyethylene sheath

Parallel wire arrangement with a protected outer construction

The heating wires are arranged in parallel, with silicone insulation over them, a metal braid for mechanical protection and earthing, and a polyethylene sheath outermost. With its high-strength outer sheath and flexible construction, it is designed for frost protection on pipework.

Is this the right product?

A good fit when

  • Your line length is known and you want to buy cable by the metre.
  • You want to measure the line on site and cut the cable to exactly what you need.
  • You are looking for silicone insulation on a line with high temperatures or chemical contact.
  • You are working on a site where earthed cable is a requirement.
  • The project calls for alternative voltages (24 V, 115 V, 400 V).

Not the right choice when

  • You are protecting a single pipe at home against freezing — HMax self-regulating heating cable, starting from a ready 5 m length, is more economical at that scale.
  • You want a complete solution where cable, panel, sensor and kit are planned together — see the pipeline frost protection system page.
  • The surface to be heated is not a pipe but a tank or equipment body — industrial tank heat tracing is more appropriate.
  • You do not have a competent team to carry out the termination and earthing work.

Installation

The cable is run straight along the pipe surface or spiralled at a set pitch, fixed with heat-resistant tape and covered with pipe insulation. Because the insulation keeps the heat in the pipe, it is an inseparable part of the installation.

Warning: Electrical connections must be made by a qualified technician. Never energise the cable while it is still coiled.

Warranty and support

All cable constructions are CE-certified ISITMAX manufacture and carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty. The warranty covers faults arising from materials and manufacture; incorrect cutting, unterminated ends and energising while coiled are excluded. Technical support is available Monday–Saturday 09:00–17:00. Write to us before ordering for length calculations and construction selection. Shipping is available throughout Türkiye.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price shown for the whole cable or per metre?
Prices are per metre. When you select a cable construction, the amount shown is the price of 1 metre; you enter the number of metres you need in the basket. For a 20 metre run you need to enter a quantity of 20.
How many metres should I order?
If you are running it straight along the pipe, the length of the line; if you are spiralling it, you need more. Add the allowance at valves and pumps and the distance out to the panel. Send us your line details and we will help with the length calculation.
Can I cut the cable wherever I like?
All four constructions can be cut on site. The cut end must not be left open, however; it has to be sealed with a splice and termination kit.
Is a metal braid necessary on my line?
If the cable will be exposed, may take impact, or earthing is a requirement, choose one of the braided models; the braid gives both mechanical protection and an earth path. If the cable will stay protected beneath insulation, the twin-conductor cuttable silicone model is sufficient and its price per metre is lower.
What is the difference between the polyethylene-sheathed model and the one with the braid on the outside?
The polyethylene sheath protects the metal braid from moisture and chemical contact; choose the sheathed models for outdoor runs or lines exposed to chemical splashing. The model with the braid on the outside suits lines where mechanical loading matters but chemical contact is not expected.
